Load testing - A fresh approach

Load testing is a critical part of any enterprise application deployment. Our approach to load testing is focused on delivering quality solutions based on a meticulous understanding of client requirements.

The depth of our knowledge is what makes us different. We have extensive experience as to what makes a project successful. We use this knowledge to ensure that your testing reflects what will actually happen in a live environment.

Load testing is not just about simulating load. We work with you to understand all the critical elements involved in testing, such as:

• What is the difference between your average and peak loads?
• How many of your users are active and how many simultaneous?
• What scripting languages will be required?
• Are there Data Protection Act considerations?
• What's the scaling factor of your test environment?

The complexity of load testing projects is easily underestimated. From the outset we ensure that you have a complete understanding of all the process, including the time and resource that will be required.

We employ a five stage methodology that provides a consistent approach throughout our projects:

Plan

Test objectives and KPIs are identified and defined, and the correct load test approach to deliver these objectives is determined. This is documented and forms the basis of the project plan, including detailed estimates on timescales and resource requirements

Script

Identified business processes are scripted and then rigorously tested. Scripts are enhanced to include error checking, verification points and transaction wrappers to ensure they are robust and accurate.

Test

A phased approach is used for running test scenarios. Major problems are identified quickly and clients get an early view of potential issues.

Analyse

Mercury LoadRunner and our own in-house tool, LoadTest Manager are used to rapidly sort and analyse the high volume of data to provide information that is easily understood.

Report

Based on the analysis a comprehensive report is provided that documents the test results and includes recommendations based on initial project objectives.
