StarBase Test Harness Accelerator for OpenLink

When dealing with the high value transactions common in areas such as the energy and financial markets it is vital to have confidence that those transactions are correct, secure and accountable. Unfortunately the Endur / Findur based applications commonly used in these environments have traditionally been classed as "unsupportable" by most testing tools as they cannot provide meaningful scripts using the standard recording methods.

The StarBase Test Harness Accelerator can be used to produce a set of robust, repeatable tests which provide confidence that your Endur / Findur application is operating correctly and securely at all times. By combining Mercury QTP’s low level playback engine with a custom object identification engine, StarBase is now able to offer an effective and easy to use Test Automation Accelerator for Endur / Findur based systems. The Accelerator has been used successfully to produce both a large Regression Test suit and a set of tests to check data for accuracy and consistency across application upgrades. It has been used to automate tests across a wide range of functionality, including trade entry, security / user administration and data management in situations where even OpenLink’s own 'Blast' tool was unable to test accurately.

While most test tools are able to record a set of low level static tests for Endur / Findur these tests are extremely sensitive to even minor cosmetic changes to the application and are almost impossible to parameterise for varying input such as user information. In contrast the StarBase Test Harness Accelerator allows tests to be written at a high level and then calculates the low level details at runtime, producing scripts which are robust enough to survive changes to the application and are easy to parameterise.
