Application Security Centre
In January 2009 StarBase launched our Application Security Testing service in response to the increasing demand from our clients.
Today all business’s need a presence on the Internet and many are using it as an extension to the business to drive sales, but every day organised gangs are using sophisticated techniques to hunt for vulnerable websites – in fact, the risk of an attack on your web site has never been greater.
Whilst you may have locked down your network with intruder prevention and built a rock solid firewall around your systems, hackers and Internet criminals are always looking for weaknesses – and they have the resources, skills, time and technologies to find them. When they find that weakness they can use it to steal data and cause damage. If the data stolen contains credit card information or personal data the cost to your business can run into millions.

Commenting on the launch, Stephen Davis Managing Director of StarBase says "Security is something that we all take seriously in our everyday lives. I am sure that we all lock our cars and homes, but we know that the determined thief will not be put off by these deterrents.
The same is true for securing IT systems. Most companies will have invested in firewalls and intruder detection which are designed to protect the perimeter and alert you when people have accessed your systems. However, with 75% of the hacks now occurring at the application level these will do little to protect you as your systems will be fooled into believing a legitimate user is accessing your system.
StarBase have always excelled at the technical areas of testing and it was a natural extension to add Security Testing to our portfolio of solutions. Many clients are concerned by the increasing number of stories in the news (See "In the News" – hyperlink to this page please) and were looking for a solution. With our new range of Application Security Testing services we are able to provide that solution."
